QUESTIONS and ANSWERS

My website counter shows that I get a lot of visitors to my website, but I don't seem to be getting a lot of business from it. What's wrong?

First of all, you should not put too much emphasis on counters. While they can provide you with some access statistics, they may not give you the real story. For example, if the prices in your store are too high, you may get a lot of visitors, but nobody buys anything. There could be many reasons why visitors to your site are not reacting to the content. The best thing to do is have someone with Internet Marketing experience evaluate your site to see what can be done to make it more effective. At worldofgraphics, we can help you evaluate the site. Simply use our contact page or call us at 519.442.3215.

I've had several web designers provide me with quotations for doing a site for me, but there is a big difference in the pricing...why is that?

Websites are just like anything else you spend your money on. Some are well worth the money while others are a waste. The first thing you need to do is sit down with a web designer and tell him/her what is is you want to accomplish with your website. Most likely, the designer will ask you a lot of questions about your business environment and specifically the type of consumers you wish to target. Also, he/she will ask what content material such as copy, photographs, artwork, etc. is available. All of this should take at least one hour or so. The designer can then suggest an approach for building the site and provide you with a fair quote.

I have a client that complains my website is not working the way it should. She is using the Firefox Browser. I know that most people are using Windows Explorer to view websites and my site works fine for them. Should I worry about that one client that insists on using a different browser?

Absolutely! More and more people are switching to the Firefox browser because it is a safer browser and also complies with more Internet standards. Your website designer should have tested your site on several different browsers and made sure it was compatible with all of them. Internet Explorer is no longer at the top of the class and you may be losing more than just one customer.

I am getting a lot of spam email and a friend of mine told me it could be because of my website. How can that be?

Spam robots are small programs that browse the Iinternet for email addresses that can be added to a spammer list. If your website displays or even hides your email in the code, the robot can find it. At worldofgraphics, we build websites that do not let robots see your email and therefore avoid getting on the spammer list.

The websites you build do not use much animation (if any), how come?

Simple, animations require bandwidth and tend to be real slow for those visitors that still have slow phoneline access (and there are still an awful lot of them). Also, animations tend to distract the visitor from the real message of the site and for business applications it only means lost sales. Today's visitor is no longer excited about animations and is only interested in finding the information they are looking for.
